UGA–Bavarian Research Alliance Seed Grant
BayIntAn Application Deadline: November 24, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
The Office of Global Engagement (OGE) is pleased to partner with the Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) to offer the BayFOR-UGA Seed Grant for FY27. The purpose of this program is to encourage the development of sustainable international research collaborations among investigators at UGA and investigators at any state university or ecclesiastical university within the Free State of Bavaria.
How the Partnership Works
The partnership involves two steps:
1. Apply for BayIntAn 2027 funding. UGA faculty interested in this opportunity must first identify and collaborate with eligible colleagues in Bavaria to apply for BayIntAn 2027 funding. The BayIntAn call will open October 19, 2026, and the application deadline is November 24, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Applications must be submitted through BayFOR’s OASys online application portal.
BayIntAn provides up to EUR 10,000 per project to support travel and accommodation costs associated with meetings between Bavarian researchers and their international partner institutions. These activities should support the initiation or strengthening of research collaborations and the preparation of joint external funding proposals.
2. Apply for UGA supplemental funding. UGA researchers who are listed as collaborators on a BayIntAn proposal selected for funding may then apply for matching supplemental support through OGE. All supplemental funding decisions are made at UGA’s discretion. BayFOR specifically notes that UGA researchers involved in successful BayIntAn proposals may apply for additional complementary funding from UGA.
All UGA supplemental funds must be fully expended no later than June 23, 2027.
Project Period
BayIntAn 2027 projects may be implemented from January 1 through July 31, 2027.
Priority Areas
Applications for the BayIntAn cooperation funding program may come from any discipline. However, proposals are especially encouraged in the following areas:
· Food security and agricultural innovation
· Health-related research
· Artificial intelligence
These areas reflect shared strategic interests between UGA and our Bavarian partners and offer opportunities for impactful, interdisciplinary collaborations addressing pressing global challenges.
UGA Supplemental Funding Requirements
Applications for UGA supplemental funding will require additional justification demonstrating how the funding will strengthen the collaboration and contribute to its long-term impact.
In addition, each proposal must include a clear and credible plan for securing external funding in the future. Applicants should demonstrate how the preparatory activities supported by the grant will directly contribute to future funding submissions, identifying specific programs, agencies, or calls they intend to pursue. This forward-looking strategy is essential to ensuring the sustainability and growth of the research partnership.
Applications for UGA top-up funding will require the following supporting materials:
· Copy of the funded BayIntAn proposal and award notification
· Supplemental justification (1–2 pages) explaining how the top-up funding will strengthen the collaboration and its long-term impact
· Future funding plan identifying specific external programs, agencies, or funding calls the team intends to pursue, with a credible timeline
· Budget justification detailing how top-up funds will be used
· CVs for all UGA project personnel
