Dr. Hilda M. Mata is Director of Africa and Latin America Programming Initiatives at the University of Georgia’s Office of Global Engagement, where she leads the development, planning, and execution of study away programs across Latin America and Africa, with programs spanning Belize, Cuba, Costa Rica, Argentina, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Rwanda, Morocco, and Spain. She also coordinates the UGA Foundation Incentive Scholarship, a $4 million endowment supporting students studying in these regions, and the Sustainability Abroad Micro (SAM) Grant program in collaboration with UGA’s Office of Sustainability. She previously served as Director of UGA Costa Rica and has taught Spanish at UGA for more than two decades, including as Faculty Director of the UGA in Costa Rica summer program. Dr. Mata holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Georgia and an M.A. in Spanish Literature and a B.A. in International Relations, both from the University of Delaware.
