UGA–Bavarian Research Alliance Top-Up Grant
Deadline: Wednesday, April 8, 2026, 1 pm (Munich, Germany)
The Office of Global Engagement (OGE) is pleased to partner with the Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) to launch a BayFOR-UGA Seed Grant. The purpose of this program is to encourage the development of sustainable international research collaborations among investigators at UGA and investigators at any state university or ecclesiastical university within the Free State of Bavaria.
The partnership involves two steps:
(1) UGA faculty interested in this opportunity must first identify and collaborate with colleagues in Bavaria to apply for BayIntAn funding. Note that the application deadline for this program cycle is April 8, 2026.
(2) UGA researchers who are listed as co-principal investigators on a BayIntAn proposal that has been selected for funding may then apply for supplemental top-up support through OGE of up to the amount awarded by BayFOR. A matching award is not guaranteed; all top-up funding decisions, including the amount awarded, are made at UGA’s discretion. Top-up funds are designed to support UGA-side research activities. They are not intended to duplicate expenses already covered by the BayFOR award, including travel costs for Bavarian collaborators.
BayIntAn-funded projects can be implemented as of June 1, 2026.
While applications for the BayIntAn cooperation funding program can come from any discipline, we especially welcome proposals that focus on food security and agricultural innovation, health-related research, and artificial intelligence, areas which reflect shared strategic interests between UGA and our Bavarian partners and can lead to impactful, interdisciplinary collaborations that address pressing global challenges.
Applications for UGA top-up funding will require the following supporting materials:
(1) Copy of the funded BayIntAn proposal and award notification
(2) Supplemental justification (1–2 pages) explaining how the top-up funding will strengthen the collaboration and its long-term impact
(3) Future funding plan identifying specific external programs, agencies, or funding calls the team intends to pursue, with a credible timeline
(4) Budget justification detailing how top-up funds will be used
(5) CVs for all UGA project personnel
A strong future funding plan is a primary factor in OGE’s review of top-up applications.
