UGA Hosts Combatting Trafficking in Persons, a US Department of State Program

From March 13th through March 31st, 2023, the University of Georgia and the U.S. Department of the State hosted government officials, public relations officers, NGO directors and other professionals interested in anti-trafficking measures, human rights and legislation. Current leaders from 18 African countries to comprehensively review the state of human trafficking and its global presence.
Combatting Trafficking in Persons is a regional project under the International Leadership Program (IVLP). The IVLP is the U.S. Department of State’s professional exchange program, inviting over 5,000 International Visitors to the U.S. annually. U.S. embassies across the globe nominate accomplished professionals to participate in the IVLP. Project themes center on cultural and educational affairs. The IVLP strives to support the development of future world leaders and to create a global network of professional relationships in the U.S.
This three-week program equipped visiting leaders with:

  • premier education
  • development tools
  • training evaluating the many forms of trafficking, indicators, and reporting protocols.

American anti-trafficking professionals led presentations and Q&A sessions. Leaders participated in collaborative discussions about implementing anti-trafficking policies in their home countries. Translation between French and English was provided by State Department interpreters.
Combatting Trafficking in Persons was facilitated through International Initiatives in the Office of Global Engagement.
