The spouse and dependent children (under 21 years of age) of international students, scholars, faculty and staff are important to the UGA and surrounding Athens community. Immigration Services aims to assist family members with resources and support during their time in the United States.
Immigration Information for Dependents
Dependents of F-1 Students
F-2 visa holders are allowed to study part-time as adults in the United States or as children in elementary and secondary school. F-2 dependents are not permitted to work.

Dependents of J-1 Exchange Visitors
J-2 visa holders are permitted to study part-time or full-time in the United States. Children are also permitted to enroll in elementary and secondary school. J-2 dependents may apply for work authorization with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). J-2 dependents may contact an Immigration Services Advisor regarding this process.
Dependents of H-1B Faculty and Staff
H-4 visa holders are permitted to study part-time or full-time in the United States. Children are also permitted to enroll in elementary and secondary school. Dependents may or may not be eligible for employment.
