The Office of Global Engagement (OGE) is excited to offer the UGA Study Away Passport Initiative for a second year in a row. The initiative provides funding to cover the cost of purchasing a passport from UGA Tate Passport Services, an amount of up to $150. OGE hopes this initiative will encourage students to obtain a passport which is a necessary and often expensive document for traveling overseas.
All UGA undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens, and who have never obtained an adult passport (or their last passport was issued prior to the age of 16), are eligible.
Yana Cornish, Director of Global Education at the Office of Global Engagement, was very excited that this initiative was being extended. “Even though international travel is still somewhat limited, the Study Away Passport Initiative allows eligible students to get passports and be prepared to engage globally once travel becomes more frequent,” she said. “This Initiative is a UGA’s long-term investment in our students and helping them become global citizens. I encourage our students to take advantage of this opportunity.”
While the Office of Global Engagement desires that all students participate in a global learning experience, students do not need to study abroad to apply. As funds are limited and applications are accepted on a first-come/first-serve basis, interested students are encouraged to apply now using the link below.
Processing time for U.S. Passport applications is currently 12-18 weeks.
